Julie Weiss began her professional life as a historian, media studies researcher, and teacher. She earned a Ph.D. in American Studies and taught at the college level before deciding that she cared most about the education part of her work. Her belief in the transformative power of education was shaped during her student days at Hampshire College.
Julie has spent 20 years developing educational materials, including helping to write the first Massachusetts curriculum framework in 1994-95. She has a passion for writing social justice curricula for TeachableMoment and Teaching Tolerance. Julie recently completed an MSW. She is the founding executive director of Canine Companion Corps, an organization that has jail inmates train shelter dogs to provide emotional assistance to military veterans.
